ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo said nursing homes are responsible for accurately reporting COVID-19 positive cases and deaths to the state Health Department, as New York doesn’t specifically “run” the facilities.
“Nursing homes are private, we ask them for the information. They’re held liable for the veracity of the information they send,” he told reporters during a late Tuesday briefing when asked how the state can improve coronavirus reporting requirements for facilities.
NYSDOH licenses 613 nursing homes across the Empire State, all of which are subject to reporting requirements and inspection by health officials.
