Special Restaurant Inspection Team Continues To Target Businesses Breaking COVID-19 Rules

A special COVID-19 inspection team set up by the Allegheny County Health Department nearly five weeks ago continues to turn up food establishments not following rules designed to limit the spread of the virus.

So far, the 10-member team has visited 1,774 bars and restaurants in the county, finding 214 businesses that broke at least one of the county’s COVID-19 safety rules.

The figures cover the period from July 23 when the inspections began to Aug. 25.

Of the businesses cited so far, the majority of violations involved problems with face masks — either employees not wearing face coverings or wearing them improperly.
